Running a Business in Brighton and Hove -- and Why It Is Harder Than It Looks
Brighton and Hove has a particular pull. The sea, the energy, the sense that you can build something here that feels like yours. People come from London and further afield, or they grow up here and never quite want to leave. And increasingly, they start businesses here.
But running a business in Brighton and Hove is not the gentle coastal dream it might appear from the outside.
The costs are high. Rent, premises, the basic cost of living - all of it puts pressure on margins that most small business owners are already watching carefully. The competition is fierce. This is a city full of talented, driven people who have also decided to build something for themselves. And the busyness is relentless -- clients to serve, decisions to make, a life to live alongside all of it.
Most business owners here are juggling more than anyone sees. The school run and the VAT return. The difficult client and the difficult conversation at home. The ambition and the exhaustion that lives right alongside it.
I know this because I have lived it.
I moved to Brighton and Hove over 25 years ago and had to build a life from scratch. I understand what it takes to establish yourself here -- the pressure, the cost, the moments where you wonder whether it is all worth it. And I understand the love of it too. The sea on a Tuesday morning. The community. The feeling that this place is worth fighting for.
That is why I coach business owners and leaders here.
Not with generic advice or off the shelf frameworks. But with genuine understanding of the environment you are operating in, the pressures that are specific to this city, and the space to think that is so hard to find when everything around you is moving fast.
If you are a business owner in Brighton or Hove who is carrying more than you should be doing alone -- that is exactly what I am here for.
A free discovery call is the best place to start. No commitment, no pressure. Just a conversation.
